Prefold Diapers are a rectangle-shape with extra layers sewn in the middle.
Can be adjusted to fit your baby and used with doublers to increase absorbency.
Really quite easy to use once you have mastered the folding techniques.
Close with pins, "Snappis" or simply fold & lay inside a cover.
Prefolds come in several sizes and are described as 2x6x2, 4x8x4, etc.
This refers to the number of layers in the side-middle-side. 

Contour Diapers are an hourglass shaped diaper. 
Pre-formed to fit your baby, they don't need to be folded.
Simply lay the diaper inside a snug cover & you're set to go!
Great for a good fit on newborns, they can be used as doublers on other diapers.

Flat Diapers are the ones your grandmother used.
Similar to prefolds without the extra layers sewn in the middle.
Add doublers to increase absorbency- then they are like prefolds.
The fastest drying diaper and a bit more versatile than prefolds.
